New Template

June 15, 2007 – 9:16 pm | by Bill

I’ve changed the template on my blog to something that looks nicer and easier to read, in my opinion.  I may still change the header image, and the little image beside the introduction box. What do you think of the new theme?

Tonight I was sitting on the patio, on my laptop. The sky was blue, the birds were chirping, and I could smell a neighbour barbecuing some kind of meat. Life is good.

I’ve been spending a lot of time on the computer lately, and I need to focus my time more. A lot of my time is spent surfing various forums, reading rss feeds and chatting on IRC. I’m going to work on getting more focused on developing sites and then moving on to the next one.

I’ve written a couple posts and they will be posted in the next couple of days, and I will work on adding more posts every few days.

The project that I’ve been talking about for some time, I will be purchasing vBulletin for it and converting it from MyBB to vBulletin. I hope the transition goes smooth. Stay tuned for the link.

There are a few blogs that I enjoy reading regularily, one of them is Joshmitsu. Check out his latest post, the Top 15 Most Beautiful Web 2.0 Designs of 2007. Some very nice designs there, its amazing what designers can do these days.

Lack Of Updates

June 9, 2007 – 1:04 am | by Bill

I’ve been incredibly busy lately, been doing some Affiliate Marketing stuff, along with working on/launching a new site. The site launch did not go well, I may post details soon. I owe you a nice long post with details of everything, I will get to that soon.

I’m also going to be  working on getting a new theme, im getting tired of looking at this one so I know you must be too.

First year of college is finished in two weeks. Yay.

Godaddy Gets The Registerfly Domains!

May 29, 2007 – 5:33 pm | by Bill

The final verdict is out. ICANN has chosen GoDaddy to receive the records from RegisterFly. What does this mean for you as a domain owner with RegisterFly? Well, the welcome page on Godaddy’s site says that you will be receiving an email in the next few days, with instructions on logging into your account.

This should prevent anyone else from losing their domains that were registered with RegisterFly.

Moved To Bluefur

May 22, 2007 – 5:12 pm | by Bill

I’ve moved all of my sites from the dedicated server, to a shared host. I chose, on a recommendation from John Chows website. The support at Bluefur is excellent, the best that I have received from a webhost. I’ve used Hostgator as well, and their support is good too. I had some issues (script requirements, etc) and they were able to fix the problems immediately, and they always reply to my support tickets very promptly.

All of my websites are now hosted on Bluefur, I highly recommend them as a host! I like using the services of local companies when possible, and I believe they are based out of Surrey which is near me.

Officially Out Of The Proxy Business!

May 20, 2007 – 1:49 pm | by Bill

In the past month, I’ve sold all of my proxy sites and most of the miscellaneous domains that I had laying around. The revenue from the proxy sites had dropped signifigantly, and generating revenue was like shooting fish in a barrel.

With the proceeds from the sale, I’ve purchased a forum for $205. The forum currently has 6000+ posts, and 300 members. It is not very active at the moment, with only a few people posting here and there. I’ve already invested another $250 into the site, and I plan to spend a bit more on advertising it. I am working on a relaunch of that site, and then will market it like crazy. I may post the domain when I launch.

A big problem that I have when working on projects, is that I will get a project very close to completion, and then stop working on it. For example, I was developing a new forum site and the site was done except for a small formatting bug when using quotations in a post. I haven’t touched the site in a few weeks. Due to the market the site is focused on, I won’t be launching it until next fall anyway. Does anyone else procrastinate before launching a new site?

New Laptop

May 19, 2007 – 2:08 pm | by Bill

On Thursday I ordered a new laptop, from Dell Canada. I shopped around a lot, looking around for the best deal. I looked at the Acer laptops at, and I went to London Drugs and looked at their selection. I got a huge discount from Dell, by talking to a support representative. It took a lot of emailing back and forth, but I was able to get a nice discount. I paid $1523 CAD for the laptop itself, and it came to $1783 after taxes.

Without the discount, the laptop was around $1900. The specs are:

Dell Inspiron 6400
Intel Core 2 Duo T5600
15.4″ Wide Screen SXGA+
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 256MB Hypermemory
160GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
3 Year Next Business Day Onsite/In Home Service and Technical Support

I was originally going to get two batteries, but I ended up getting one to save a bit of money. I paid for the laptop mostly from my tax return from the Government. I chose to get the 3 year warranty, even though it cost $250 more. I feel more secure with my purchase because if anything breaks with it, I can get it repaired for free.

I purchased it now instead of in September, as I plan to use it for Work this summer. Also during the summer evenings, I would rather sit on the patio with a Corona while on my computer, instead of being in my office.

I’m hoping it will be here by Friday, but it might arrive on May 28. After I’ve used it for awhile, I’ll post pictures and write a review of it.

Five weeks to go

May 19, 2007 – 9:49 am | by Bill

I have five weeks of school left until summer “vacation”! This past week was filled with exams, and I’m glad its the weekend. My next two courses are another Active Directory course, and a linux course. I’m looking forward to the linux course, as I’ve been playing a lot with Ubuntu lately. I’ve used many distributions of linux, and I’m excited to learn more commands.

I’m looking forward to summer, although I have no idea what I will be doing. I’m going to talk to my current employer, and see if they would like me to work full time this summer. If I do, then I will need to rent a car..which can get quite costly. I got a quote to rent a car from July 1 – August 31, it would cost me $1500.

Time for an update!

April 30, 2007 – 5:09 pm | by Bill

Time passes very fast. I haven’t written any ‘real’ posts since the beginning of April, and here we are, on April 30! Life has been good to me, and a lot has changed in my life.

My classes are going well, although some of the courses are a bit slow. I’m taking Cisco CCNA level 4 and Server Hardware right now. Today’s lecture in Server Hardware was on Chipset Architecture. It was basically a review of what we did in the PC Hardware course.

I’m enjoying the Cisco stuff a lot right now, and am planning to write the CCNA certification exam soon. I wrote a practice exam (actual exam from a few years ago) and got around 72% without studying, or knowing anything about Frame Relay or ISDN. Once we have finished the CCNA curriculum, I plan to study a lot and write the test. I shouldn’t have any problems getting the certification.

Web Development
I’m now officially out of the proxy business. I got tired of the proxy sites, and I’ve sold off most of them, I still have five left. They all have pagerank of 2-3, but not a lot of traffic. If your interested in buying them, make me an offer.

I’ve recently started doing Affiliate Marketing. I’ll do a post soon with details.

I’m removing Kontera from my blog. I detest those type of advertisements, and I have received 75 impressions, 1 click, $0.11.

Hacker. Dropout. CEO.

April 10, 2007 – 4:56 pm | by Bill has a really interesting article on Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook.

It has some really interesting information, for example Mark Zuckerberg was 19 when he created Facebook, and he is 22 now. Facebook is also one of the largest implementations of MySQL on the web. I recommend reading the article!
