Parallels RC 2.2 Followup

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

Tried the Battlefield 2142 demo today, wasn’t too impressed. It is way too futureistic for me, and I’m not into that. Seems more like the style of Mechwarrior. Although, driving around in one of those vehicles with two legs was cool – at first. I will stick to Counter-Strike Source for now.

The following is a followup to my previous post.

So Parellels RC 2.2 rocks. I used Slackware 11, Backtrack 1.0, and Ubuntu. Since Backtrack 1.0 and Ubuntu are livecds by default, they were very easy to run in the Parallels installation. I did not end up getting Slackware 11 to work, I messed up while i was partitioning I think, and I do not feel like fixing it.

Backtrack and Ubuntu worked great, although I did not get network/internet connectivity in Backtrack for some reason. I would have really liked this, so I could use Backtracks tools with my wifi card, without downloading them in another livecd such as Ubuntu. Ubuntu worked great, was very fast, and the internet worked fine.

Parallels will theoretically work great on computers with wifi cards, because a lot of wifi card manufacturer drivers do not natively support linux, which can be a problem for people with wifi cards, especially when you are a mobile laptop user. Parellels bridges your internet connection between your main OS and the virtual OS. So you could run Windows XP Pro, and in Parallels be running Ubuntu and use your wifi card.

Slackware 11

Friday, October 6th, 2006

With the recent release of Slackware 11, I decided to download and install the dvd iso using Microsoft Virtual PC 2004. I got a copy of Virtual PC for free from Microsoft and my school, so I figured I would use it. I go ahead and download it, and install it, and upon trying to load the .iso, it spits out an error about it not being a valid CD image. Apparently it does not like dvd isos.

I go ahead and download VMware, the competitor of Virtual PC. After I installed it, I got a tip from an irc chatroom that Parallels has a version for Windows, and that it’s better then VMware and Virtual PC. So I download Parallels and install it, and set it up.

Parellels RC 2.2 seems to be working great. Before tonight I had never manually configured linux partitions before, so I learned some stuff. :) All in all, it’s fairly easy.

Going to go finish installing Slackware 11, I may post back later with screenshots. =)

CBB Group

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

So I was browsing a certain torrent website today, looking for ‘legit’ torrents. I found a movie called 27 days later. I wanted to download the movie 28 days later, and all the other good zombie movies. I figured that whoever uploaded it just mispelled the name, but I was wrong. In 2004, a group called CBB was born. They are several movie addicts who have one thing in common: they are willign to do something about being not enough entertained by the movie industry. Make your own editions of your movies. Sometimes less is more.

I clicked on the link, and read the .nfo. It seems kind of cool, so I am going to¬†download it. This version is slightly edited from the original, unlike several of their other releases. They have also released ‘THE MATRIX deZIONized‘ which is basically a special edition combining Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions to one complete movie. Another release is ‘Jailbird‘ (another link), a completely new version of ‘Conair’.

Smod

Friday, February 17th, 2006

I was talking to a friend of mine tonight (Knify_Dude), and he said that I should download “Smod”. At first I thought he said something similar to “Donkey Mod”, and after I stopped laughing he spelt it out for me.

Wikipedia describes Smod as the following:

“A modification that adds bizarre new weapons, and new features including melee attacks, and bullet time.”

I agree with Wikipedia’s definition. Careful though, you may need a fairly new machine to play around with this mod, my computer froze for a few seconds at times when there was a lot going on at once. Oh, and the load times are much, much longer when playing Smod. I’m not sure why, but perhaps it is because of all the extra models. By the way, this game is a Japenese mod. A few of my favorite things in this mod include bullet time, the assault smg, ak47, Alyx Gun, and the “Gordon Kick”. Yup, that’s right. After you bind the button you wish to use to kick, you can literally kick some butt.

I’ve taken a bunch of random screenshots in the first parts of Half Life 2, with Smod enabled. You can view them here.

Here is a some information about Smod.Click here for another review of it.

Download it below.

Left Behind: Eternal Forces

Friday, January 6th, 2006

I just saw the third movie in the Left Behind series, entitled “Left Behind: World at War“, the other day. It was ok, I would’ve liked some more action in the movie though, but I think that will be coming in the next one. I think this movie was just setting the stage for the next one.

There is actually a video game based on the Left Behind series as well. This really appeals to me, not sure why. Here is a screenshot of the game, it appears to be a real time stategy game. I heard a rumor that pre-orders are available. I will have to check it out, but I wouldn’t mind playing a demo first.. :)

It’s been awhile..I know your bored if you are at this website, so here are some links which will hopefully entertain you for a few minutes while you decide which url to type in the bar above.

Here is a sweet Network Traffic Ticket. Yes, that’s right. I should become a network admin. Hahaha, the possibilities are endless.

An article entitled ’10 Things Every New Mac Owner Should Know’. Since I am planning on buying a mac in the future, I am posting it here selfishly. If it helps you..your welcome. If not, move along sucka!

We get a lot of junk faxes at work, I should try the black paper method mentioned in this article.

Been reading all of the Penny Arcade archives lately. There is some funny stuff there. Very funny stuff. Some is lame, but a lot is good.

That is all for now.
